Final Order for Friday, December 5th

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving! Good news: almonds have arrived. You should check with your host if you ordered these. Each location has a few extra pounds so if you were not able to order, you may purchase them with your host. Thank you, Shelah, for organizing this and making it possible! We have also added organic coconut cream and oils to our special order items. Please see below for details.

Several months ago I shared how when traveling to visit family, I went to a produce store in the Philadelphia area. I purchased about what we would get in a regular share (one full box) with a mix of greens, veggies and fruit, and spent over $65. All of this was NOT organic. I came to really appreciate what a wonderful resource we have through this co-op! We've even had members join with us to get the great deals, and later were happily surprised to find out that it was organic!

Martha and I have been working hard to keep prices down, but are finding it more difficult to do so as our expenses have been steadily increasing. We do not want to sacrifice the quality or quantity, so starting in January a regular share will be $52 and the fruit share will be $23. Special order items will stay the same.

I also thought you would like to know how we are using some of the membership fee money. The cost of honey has been increasing, but in order to keep the price of honey the same for our members, we are investing in the equipment needed to purchase a large drum. By buying in larger bulk, we are able to keep the cost down. (That is also the reason that the larger groups are able to get a little more in their shares!)

Thank you for telling your friends about us and helping us to grow. We would love to hear your stories about how this co-op has helped your family. Please email us your testimonials and feedback at healthyhabitsproduce@gmail.com. We would like to post some of these on our web site. Together we can make a difference and help the community to develop healthy habits at a savings!

IMPORTANT: Note the schedule change coming up.  We will have a three week stretch after this week's pick up in order to make it easier for us all over the holidays.  After the pick up on the 17th of Oct., we will not pick up again until the 7th of November.  We will then continue with every two weeks.  (This allows us not to have to come the day after Thanksgiving or the day after Christmas as well as allowing us to keep our calendars open for fall activities on the 31st of October.)   We thank you all for "Co-op"erating with us!

Almonds, Almonds, Almonds - I have just been made aware of an incredible deal for our co op group with Almonds and I have to share it.  As many of you know, almonds are highly nutritious. The almond crop is just coming off the trees in California. We have been offered raw, unpasteurized almonds, straight off the trees for 5.00 per pound. That includes shipping.

These almonds are organic and ready to be sprouted, toasted, roasted or eaten directly from the shells, a commodity that is hard to come by and a price that really can't be beat. The almonds can be stored for up to 1 year in dry storage and longer if you freeze or chill them.

If anyone is interested in ordering, please contact me via email. I will be accepting personal checks as well as paypal transactions through Saturday, October 18. You can place your order with me at the Redland group on Friday as well. We have to order in 100 pound increments however with the amount of people in our co – op and with neighbors and friends, I can't imagine that will be an issue.   The order needs to be placed in the next two weeks, so if interested, get in on it now!

Have a great day –

Final Order for Friday, October 3

Thanks for "co-oping" with us! Your participation makes it possible to continue this endeavor. Please remember to bring your blue tote bags back to your host... and she will also welcome any clean reusable plastic bags!

Our order schedule will be changing slightly at the end of October. Please make note on your calendars that we will NOT have an order on Oct. 31. Our pick-ups will resume Nov 7 and 21 and Dec 5 and 19. This puts us into a better position with the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. So from Oct 17 to Nov 7 we will have a 3 week stretch.... oh well, I guess we'll just all have to go to the store!

As usual, Redlands will have homemade soaps, local honey and all natural fish dip available for purchase. Cutler Bay will also have fish dip available this week. Coral Gables will have honey available for purchase and will be able to sample the fish dip.
